Today we’re going to talk about one of my favorite things: repurposing! It’s such a fun way to get what you need without spending extra money. I have 40 cheap and easy repurposing hacks that I can’t wait to share with you. Some you may have seen before, but I’m sure there are a few new ones in here that you’ll want to try. Let’s dive in!

Cereal Box Hacks

Cereal boxes are so versatile!

  • Drawer Liners: Cut down cereal boxes to fit your kitchen or bathroom drawers for easy cleanup.

  • Shopping List Cards: Cut them into strips, attach them to a magnetic clip, and stick them on your fridge for quick access to make lists.

  • DIY Picture Frames: You can cover them with wrapping paper or fabric to make picture frames.

  • Baking Helpers: Don’t forget the inner cereal bags! Use them instead of wax paper when rolling out dough or tortillas. You can even use them in your craft room when working with hot glue. Bonus tip: these bags are great for stuffing socks to make crinkle toys for babies or pets!

  • Cereal Box Cork Board: Glue pieces of a cereal box together and cover them with contact paper, or leave them uncovered for a DIY corkboard.

Tissue Boxes and Hair Claws for Quick Fixes

  • Desktop Trash: An empty tissue box works perfectly as a mini trash can for your desk.

  • Towel Holders: Grab a plastic hair claw to keep your kitchen towel from falling off the oven door handle. It works in the bathroom, too!

Empty Kitchen Packaging Hacks

  • Egg Carton Jewelry Holder: Clean egg cartons are perfect for organizing small items in your drawers.

  • Tuna Can Water Gauge: Place flat tuna cans in your garden to measure how much water your plants are getting.

  • Plastic Cookie Inserts: Use plastic cookie inserts as drawer organizers. They’re also perfect on counters for storing spices, water bottle lids, or even sponges.

Clothespins & Binder Clips

  • Clothespin Bag Clips: Spring clothespins are great for sealing chip bags.

  • Pegs to Hanging: You can also use them to hang pictures, art, or reminders:

  • Binder Clips for Hangers: Use them to keep tank tops or sundresses from sliding off the hanger.

Water Bottle Crafts

  • Hanging Herb Gardens: Cut and paint plastic water bottles to create herb planters for your kitchen.

  • Water Bottle Storage: Cut off the top of a water or detergent bottle and use it to store soap or personal items.

  • Wet Umbrella Carrier: Cut the bottom off a water bottle, flip it upside down, poke holes in each side, and add a strap from an old purse to carry your wet umbrella hands-free.

  • Plastic Bottle Soap Holder: Cut the tops and bottoms off of water bottles, wrap them in cute fabric or old socks, glue them together, and add a ribbon for hanging. Perfect for storing bars of soap or personal items.

  • Homemade Coin Bank: Turn a plastic bottle into a bank by cutting a slit at the top for coins.

  • Pencil and Marker Storage: Cut off the the top half of some bottles and you can either paint them or use them as is to store markers and pencils. You can also take the bottom half of a large bottle and line it with a plastic bag to use as a countertop garbage.

Travel and Organizing Hacks

  • Contact Lens Case for Travel: Use them for small jewelry, moisturizer, or Vaseline on the go.

  • Prescription Bottles for Earbuds: Repurpose those small containers for holding earbuds or cotton swabs when traveling.

  • DIY Baby Wipes: After you empty a baby wipe package, just roll up half sheet paper towels and insert them into the hole. Then add soapy water to the package and flatten the towels out to make your own baby or hand wipes in a pinch.

Upcycling Fabrics and Clothes

  • T-Shirt Grocery Bag: Cut the sleeves and neck off an old t-shirt and stitch up the bottom to make a reusable grocery or laundry bag.

  • Handkerchief Tissue Holder: Stitch or use hemp tape to close the ends of an old handkerchief. Cut a slit in the center, close up the other end with velcro snaps or a button, and then use it to hold facial tissues.

Picture Frames

  • Dry Erase Calendar: Print out a calendar, place it into a frame, and use it as a dry-erase board you can use all year long.

  • Calendar Picture Frames: Old calendar pages can become unique wall art when placed into a picture frame.

  • Framed Organizer: Add a couple of hooks and a cute message to an old picture frame for stylish access to things you use the most.

Miscellaneous Repurposing Hacks

  • Plastic Bag Mat: Weave several plastic bags together to make a mat for sitting outside or put two of them together to make a thicker mat for kneeling while gardening.

  • DIY Yarn Holder: Cut a hole in the lid of a detergent bottle to thread yarn through, keeping it safe from pets or kids while you knit.

  • Shower Caddy Charging Station: Cut the hanger portion off the top of a shower caddy, fix a power strip sideways using zip ties, and you’ve got yourself a handy charging station for all your electronics.

  • Floral Foam Jar Arrangements: Add some floral foam and marbles to an empty jar to create cute artificial plant arrangements.

  • Plastic Lid Coasters: Use unmatched plastic lids as coasters. You can even create a small holder for them using a snack box.

  • Loft Bed to Twin Bed: When our kids got a little too big for these loft beds, we disassembled the beds and flipped them upside down to make regular beds.

  • Accessory Storage: Then we took the storage railing and shower curtain rings to store hair scrunchies in my daughter's room.
