How to Declutter Clothes the Quick, Easy & Stress-Free Way
Simplifying our clothes is a form of self-care, but decluttering clothes can be a very emotional process. We all have some items in our wardrobes that we do not wear but don’t want to get rid of.
Perhaps the most common example is having gained weight and keeping clothes a couple of sizes smaller in the hope to wear them again one day. Dawn from The Minimal Mom teaches the best way to declutter clothes without the stress and panic that usually comes with it.
The main principle of the process is that we deserve to have clothes that fit and that we feel good in. The idea is to build out your wardrobe on your bed from scratch, based on what you currently wear a lot and enjoy wearing.
Decide how many items you need in each category of clothing. If you need four pairs of leggings in your everyday life and you own three pairs that you like at the moment, now you know what to shop for, and your shopping will be much more intentional.
What is left in the end is stuff that did not make the cut. Your options for these items are simple: pack away, donate, or sell.
Storing things you hope to fit in someday outside of your wardrobe helps avoid the pressure of throwing them out, as well as the stress and shame of seeing them every day. Obviously, you should limit yourself in the number of things that you keep that way.
The beauty of this method is that you do not have to go through your entire wardrobe evaluating each piece, which can be exhausting and stressful, but rather start with your favorites.
In the end, you get a full wardrobe that consists only of things that make you feel confident. Now when you are looking for an outfit in the morning, everything is an option.
