All the Ways I Organize My Craft Room

I'm excited to share with you how I transformed a simple bedroom into a creative hideaway where I love spending time. The process was fun, affordable, and surprisingly easy. Let me walk you through my journey!

Quick Win: The Perfect Organizer

One of my favorite solutions came from Walmart: a seven-drawer organizer I found during back-to-school season. This little tool helped me create so much space and order in my craft room.

Since it’s part of their back-to-school supplies, it might not be available year-round, so grab one quickly if you can.

This organizer is perfect for decluttering all those tiny items in your home office, craft, or hobby space.

I also used my favorite printer to create labels for each drawer, so I can easily find everything while keeping the space looking neat and uncluttered.

Customizing My Space

After seeing how well the drawers worked, I went back and bought two more! I love that the drawers are interchangeable, and I rearranged them in a way that made sense for me.

My craft studio also serves as my business area and home office, so I needed space for office supplies that you might not.

Still, at under $15 each, these organizers are a steal for anyone looking to declutter and organize.

10-Minute Projects to Organize Your Craft Room

Now, I’m going to share ideas you can tackle in just 10 minutes to get your craft room organized! Feeling overwhelmed by clutter? Let’s break it down into manageable, bite-sized tasks. These projects can be done from start to finish in just 10 minutes each.

Craft Caddy for Your Most-Used Supplies

Creating a craft caddy is a great way to corral the supplies you reach for most often.

I found the perfect-sized container at Walmart, but you can also find similar options at Dollar Tree or Five Below.

Whether you're into beading, sewing, knitting, or any other craft, a caddy helps keep your most-used supplies organized and easy to access.

A Splash of Color with Patterned Notebooks

I also picked up some colorful and patterned notebooks. These are perfect for organizing ideas, and you can even use different colors to categorize your thoughts.

In just 10 minutes, I was able to streamline my creative process and make my space more functional.

Making Space with Micro-Organizing

I took on the task of micro-organizing my drawers, labeling each one based on what it contained.

Using bins from Dollar Tree, I turned an unorganized mess into a neatly categorized space. The whole project only took a few minutes, but it made a huge difference.

Decluttering: A Fresh Start

I realized I didn’t need my old office organizing cart anymore, so I cleared it off and repurposed the space. It only took 10 minutes, and now my space feels so much more open.

You’ll be amazed at how much space you can create by letting go of what you don’t need.

Use a Folder or Folio for Important Papers

To help organize papers and instructions, I added a folder/folio system. This works especially well for loose papers that tend to pile up.

The folio is sleek, affordable, and fits neatly into a drawer or can be stored on a shelf without taking up much room. It keeps my desk clear and helps me quickly locate important documents.

More Shelving, More Storage

Every craft room needs more shelving, right? I found these affordable and easy-to-assemble shelves at Walmart.

They took just 10 minutes to set up, and I now have so much more storage space by stacking them on top of sturdy bookshelves.

Make Room for What Matters

Sometimes, we hold on to things we don’t need anymore. I took 10 minutes to go through my craft and office supplies, tossing anything that no longer worked—dried-up paints, old yarn, broken pens, you name it. This gave me the fresh start I needed to enjoy my space again.

Add a Focal Point

One of the easiest ways to refresh your space is by adding a simple focal point. I thrifted a basket and grabbed some faux roses from Walmart, creating a lovely and relaxing atmosphere in my craft room.

It’s amazing how a small touch like this can make the space feel more inviting.

Create a Command Center

Another 10-minute project that can save you so much time is setting up a command center.

I use mine to track my projects and deadlines, writing everything out on a dry-erase board and a calendar.

This simple addition keeps me on track and helps me make the most of my time.

Covering Cords with Mesh Laundry Bags

If you have a lot of cords in your craft or office space, consider using mesh laundry bags to organize them.

I found a two-pack at Dollar Tree and used one to hide cords behind furniture. The mesh is easy to work with and keeps everything tidy.

Time to Declutter and Refresh

To maximize space, I tackled one small area at a time, filling plastic shoe boxes with only the essentials.

This forced me to decide what I truly needed, allowing me to donate or toss what no longer served a purpose.

Disguise Visual Clutter with Uniform Storage

If you have boxes or containers that fit your space but don’t look great, cover them with neutral wrapping paper for a sleek, cohesive look.

This was an easy 10-minute upgrade that made a big difference in how my room feels.

Fun Project: DIY Phone Holder

Here’s a project that’s completely unnecessary but was a lot of fun!

I found tiny doll chairs at Dollar Tree, sanded them, and glued a box to the seat. After a few coats of spray paint, I had a fun little holder for my phone or charger.

Invest in Comfort

One of the best decisions I made was investing in a comfortable chair for my back.

I also got a desk that allows me to alternate between sitting and standing. Having the right furniture can make all the difference in how much you enjoy your workspace.

Wrapping Paper for Craft Surface Protection

One of my go-to tips is using leftover wrapping paper to protect surfaces while I’m crafting.

It’s great for messy projects, and I can change it out easily without worrying about ruining my desk.

Thrift Store Treasures

I love finding storage solutions at thrift stores. I recently found three stacking baskets that were perfect for my needs.

I also picked up a cute treasure box to help disguise some of my craft supplies.

A few coats of spray paint helped these pieces blend seamlessly into my space.

Use Binders for Paper Organization

Binders are an excellent solution for storing papers and instructions in a way that keeps your space looking neat. I invested in a few sturdy binders and now all my paperwork is stored vertically, saving space and reducing clutter.

Since my dog Bella is always with me, I made her a little area in my craft room using the extra space I created from all the decluttering. Now she has her own cozy spot to hang out while I work.

Finishing Touches: Kleenex Box Makeover

To jazz up some everyday essentials, I spray-painted my Kleenex box gold.

It’s a simple upgrade that makes a difference.

Tray for Corraling Items on Your Desk

One simple addition that made a big difference was adding a tray to my desk for corraling smaller items like pens, sticky notes, and paper clips.

This not only keeps the items within reach but also makes it easier to clean up. When I need to dust or tidy, I can move everything at once by simply lifting the tray.

Wire Baskets for Open Storage

Wire baskets are great for organizing items you want easy access to, but without the look of messy open storage.

I also use stacking wire baskets to organize paperwork.  Plus, it gives a cohesive and stylish look.

Incorporating Natural Elements

Adding plants to your space is a great way to refresh the atmosphere. I visited a local plant store and found the perfect plant for the lighting in my room.

Not only does it brighten up the space, but it also cleans the air.

Closing Thoughts

Organizing your craft room doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Tackling one small project at a time makes it manageable, and soon you’ll have a space that’s not only functional but a joy to spend time in.

Let’s keep creating beautiful spaces!
